HOW LONG DOES THE HAND-WOOVEN THATCH LAST?
In dry climates 4 to 5 years before it needs to be replaced. In medium climates 3 to 4 years
HOW DO I KNOW WHICH STYLE OR SIZE TO BUY?
Be sure of the size that you choose, as the palapas are not returnable items. You might want to mark out the size in advance to help you imagine how it will look when complete.
HOW TALL ARE THE PALAPAS?
The highest point ranges from approximately 8'6" Palapas to 9'6".Head clearance varies from 6'6" to about 7'4". (thatch fringe will hang slightly longer)
WHAT CAN I USE TO COVER MY TIKI BAR, AWNING, BARBECUE, OR CUSTOM ROOF TOP?
Thatch capes, each measuring about 3' x 4', are perfect for any custom size structure.
HOW MUCH DO I BUY?
A good rule of thumb, although not exact, is to take the total square footage to be covered and double it (for a double layer of thatch). Each cape measures about 12 square feet., so divide the total by 12 and then add 10 or 15% for overlapping and overhang. The result is the approximate number of panels needed for your project. Each panel is approximately 48" x 36"
*Remember to buy in multiples of 12, as the capes are packed in bales with 12 pieces in each bale.
HOW WELL DOES THE THATCH HOLD UP IN WIND?
The Hand-woven thatch holds up well in heavy winds when properly installed, up to 70 miles per hour. Because the thatches are Hand-woven and allows air to flow through it unlike canvas umbrellas.
HOW DO I INSTALL A PALAPA?
Our Palapa Kit is a simple do-it-yourself project. Installation is a breeze, dig a hole or core a hole, construct the frame, and place the pre-woven thatch tops on the frame and enjoy.
DO I WANT A TABLE?
Tables are installed over the main lodge pole, before constructing the palapa frame on site. You will need to decide in advance whether or not you will want one. See accessories.
DO I NEED FIRE RETARDANT ON MY PALAPA?
If the Palapa or thatch materials are to be used in a commercial setting, i.e. restaurant, bar, etc…. then it is required by code. If the Palapas’ or thatch materials are for Residential use, they DO NOT need fire retardant applied. All residential customers have the option of choosing which they prefer
